I am writing to apply for the position of Research Officer at IMB as recently advertised on SEEK.com.au.

I have recently returned to Australia after completing my PhD at the University of Cambridge in the UK. I am currently working in a laboratory at the University of Sunbeams on the Sunshine Coast but have long wanted to work at the IMB given its international reputation for innovative research in the field of RNomics. During my PhD I studied a small non-messenger RNA (Rcd) and its impact on the bacterial intra-cellular messenger indole.

In both my current position and my PhD and honours research, I have utilised multiple RNA analysis techniques including microarrays and next-generation sequencing. I am extremely competent when it comes to data analysis including statistical analysis, and have had three papers published during my PhD, including one in Cell and another in Nature – please refer to my resume for details.

I have an excellent track record as a hard-working member of the laboratory team and am always ready to lend a hand and offer suggestions when invited. I enjoy a close team dynamic and being able to confer with my colleagues about current projects. The experience I gained working in an international laboratory while at the University of Cambridge was invaluable and I developed many contacts while attending conferences. My research and writing skills have been well developed over the past four years of research and my communication skills were further enhanced by the experiences I had during the year I worked as a ski instructor. I enjoy problem-solving, and am keen to collaborate with your team.
