I am applying for the position of Corporate Affairs Coordinator as advertised on seek.com.au.

A recent Bachelor of Arts in Communications graduate, specialising in Public Relations and Organisational Communication, I have over three years’ practical experience in public relations through an internship and volunteer positions.

I have developed strong writing and editorial skills over the course of my studies and in my work as a volunteer fundraiser for the Smithtown Medical Research Institute (SMRI), during my three-month full-time internship with Jones & Lee Public Relations and as website content manager for Smithtown Tidy Town Committee. I have written and produced high-quality and effective fliers and posters, press releases, conference brochures and internal reports. I have also written copy for websites. My strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills are demonstrated in these documents.

During my internship, I received an excellent grounding in general public relations practice. I gained experience in dealing with the media as I was the point of contact for media outlets interested in media releases. I successfully fielded enquiries and built up some fruitful business relationships with many media contacts. I also have great follow-up skills, which are very important when securing sponsorships in my fundraising activities with SMRI.

My ability to think outside the square is demonstrated by the event I organised for SMRI in mid-2007. SMRI were looking for a new fundraising activity that raised the profile of the organisation within the local community and also raised money for the Institute. I conceived the entertainment event, which raised over $5000 and involved 100 local school students.

I am excited about the opportunity to join the team at Green Mortgages and further develop my skills as a public relations practitioner.
