Obviously, everyone’s learning style is different so we’ve tried to take a broad approach at what seems to be the hot favourites, including a mix of online, on campus, university, college and vocational institutions. This includes using published ratings and survey results such as the 2014 Good Universities Guide, Online Study Australia’s online ranking system and the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings.
Charles Sturt University (CSU) offers a range of education courses, including primary, secondary, and adult and vocational education, but they are making it onto our list today for their early childhood teaching course offerings. With a choice of specialising in birth to five years or opting for the early childhood and primary course, there is a bachelor degree that will equip you with the necessary qualifications to teach in a childcare centre, primary school or wherever you are interested in pursing your career as an early childhood teacher.
CSU offers the flexibility of a range of campuses to choose from as well as offering a large number of courses online. In fact, they are ranked in the top 5 for the Online Study Australia university rankings with a course approval rating of 79%. In the 2014 Good Universities Guide, they received at 5 star rating for the ‘getting a job’ category and, after all, the point of going to uni is to get a job!
The University of New England (UNE) is well known as being one of the top regional universities in Australia. Not only this, but the university is well known for its education courses and is our pick for best primary school education course provider.
UNE comes in at the number one spot according to Online Study Australia’s online university rankings with a course approval rate of 87%. If you choose to study on campus, UNE’s location of Armidale is well known for its strong education system if you plan on staying in the area to complete your practical components.
Monash University boasts a wide offering of secondary teaching options, including double degrees required to specialise in a subject area. Monash also provides online and distance options, including the Master of Teaching (secondary) offered online through the University’s partnership with Open Universities Australia.
Coupled with their number four ranking with a course approval rating of 86%, through Online Study Australia, it’s no surprise that Monash is taking out our top spot for best secondary school education course. It’s also worth noting that this University ranks as number five in the country, according to the Times Higher Education Ranking.
If you’re going to study a niche course, sometimes it’s best to go to the specialists. TESOL College focus on teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) courses and are Australia’s largest private TESOL College.
If that’s not enough to warrant the nod from us as the best TESOL educator, students are given the option of studying on campus or online and their courses have seen graduates teach English in more than 80 countries worldwide.
While it might seem like the obvious choice for adult and vocation education, TAFE really is a powerhouse when it comes to this area of study. TAFE NSW alone has been the leading ‘technical’ education provider since the 1880s and has adapted over the years to meet the requirements of students and industry alike. In a recent poll, 94 per cent of respondents thought that TAFE NSW services were valuable for business and industry and 97% believed that the education provider was extremely/very important in providing apprentice training.
University of Southern Queensland – 2nd in the Online University Rankings List with an 82 per cent course approval rating. The University offers early childhood, primary, secondary, special education and sport, health and physical education.
