“Online marketing is relatively fresh and new. While the core principles haven’t changed you must be on your feet. Constantly learning new things.”
Read Nadim’s career story on how he went from sweeping dust in factories to become the marketing manager for MathsOnline – Australia’s number 1 online maths teacher.
What did you study to get into marketing?
Bachelor of Economics. I’ve since completed a Specialization course in Social Media Marketing via correspondence at Northwestern University.
An Actuary
Sweeping dust up at my Dad’s factory. I was 12 at the time. A learnt a lot from that first job. The biggest lesson was that I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life sweeping factories.
I don’t think I made a conscious decision to what to be in marketing. I just found myself in the role. I saw a job opportunity and just took it.

Just last year I got to attend a US homeschool conference in Ohio. It was fantastic meeting the homeschool community in the US. The school system is very different over there. It was great to learn new things and meet some wonderful people.
The best part is opportunity. I think that should be the best part of anyone’s job. If there is no opportunity in your current role then start looking. Look for the opportunity and if you haven’t found it, look for a new job.
The worst part can be my head. My head might sometimes tell me that I am over worked and under paid. That fellow work colleagues are annoying. That I am too good for feedback. Or that the commute is hard… But that is all in my head and that moment’s line of thinking.
Be ambitious. If you find yourself in the same role for a prolonged period, I think you should ask yourself why. Then do something about it. You can be content with life while still being ambitious to reach new career highs.
That the current climate is consistently changing. Online marketing is relatively fresh and new. While the core principles haven’t changed you must be on your feet. Constantly learning new things. I’m currently reading ‘They Ask You Answer’ by Marcus Sheridan. Highly recommended and I certainly wish I read it before I started.
I think each pay rise is a career highlight. I think that a pay increase is the ultimate sign of appreciation in a workplace. After all, money is a big reason why we work. So, I love the sense of satisfaction and personal achievement if I get some good news during pay review.
I’m happy in my current workplace. The company really looks after me. I don’t see myself moving companies so I’ll have to continue to move-up and grow within my workplace. The aim is to be managing director and/or have equity share. I also won’t rule out the possibility of starting my own business.
I’m married to my beautiful wife Tamara. We are blessed with two amazing children. I’m pretty good Maths. I’m quite analytical. I even tutor Maths to high school students in my spare time. I have been doing it since I left school. But like everyone, I also have my struggles.
