After a 26-year career in finance and at the height of his success, Tom decided to ditch his stressful role of trading inflation swaps and bonds for a life of meditation, zen and harmony.
He’s now committed to reducing stress and chaos in people’s lives and so five years ago, Tom started The Stillness Project as a “mission to bring the very essence of who we are back into our lives… STILLNESS.”
He’s been featured on TV, The Sydney Morning Herald, Huffington Post, Vogue magazine, Conde Nast traveller, Qantas traveller, NineMSN, The Sunday Telegraph.

What did you study and what are the steps you took to be where you are today?

I studied Vedic Meditation teacher training as well as numerous other personal and spiritual development courses.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

A journalist

What inspired The Stillness Project?

Meditation played a huge part in my life, lifting out of depression and anxiety. I was so compelled to share this powerful technique with the world and this gave birth to The Stillness Project.

Explain a typical day at work

It’s not really work, it’s more of a passion. After my morning routine of exercise, yoga, meditation and breakfast, I will be either in a creative process with my film production team (I’m currently producing a feature film) otherwise I will be writing blogs, coaching, preparing a speaking presentation, or doing social media.

What’s the most interesting thing that’s happened to you in your career?

Wow, every day offers so many surprises! Id say speaking on stage in Mexico at Awesomenessfest, being on national TV or simply receiving an email from a student telling me how much the meditation or retreat has changed their life.

Name the best and worst parts of your job

Best is seeing the change in people. Worst, hmm, its not really the worst , but there’s a constant subtle ache inside that is me saying “I could be doing more” and I have to deal with that.

What’s the most important career tip someone has given you?

Be patient.

Where do people have to start to get into coaching or personal development?

Get trained as much as possible in writing, speaking, social media, and personal and spiritual development.

Name a career highlight

Walking away from my career in finance and establishing The Stillness Project.

What’s next for you?

Completing and releasing my feature film The Portal in 2018, more retreats, speaking gigs, a book deal and coaching.

Tell us a bit more about yourself

I am married with two gorgeous teenage twins, Taj and Lauren. I love Byron Bay, surfing on longboards, and sitting on the grass at North Bondi watching the sunset in summer!
